Tips for filling up in Albania
- No station may sell petrol or diesel above the maximum price, so prices differ little from one station to the next.
- Fill up before you head onto remote mountain roads, where there are far fewer stations than on the main roads.
- Driving on to North Macedonia or Kosovo? Diesel there is usually noticeably cheaper than in Albania, so it can pay to fill up after the border.
- Stations on main roads and in towns usually take cards; keep some lek for small stations in the countryside.
- Check whether your rental car takes petrol or diesel before you fill up: it is written on the fuel cap or in the rental agreement.

The maximum price is 195 lek a litre for unleaded petrol and 211 lek for diesel, under the Transparency Board decision of October 10, 2026. The table above shows the same prices in your currency.
Not quite. The government's Transparency Board sets a temporary maximum price for petrol and diesel: no station may charge more, but any station may charge less. Prices therefore differ only slightly between stations.
The Transparency Board recalculates the maximum prices from international oil prices, taxes and the maximum trading margins, and publishes a new decision whenever they move, sometimes several days in a row. This page is checked by hand and shows the date of the decision its prices come from.
Yes, many stations sell LPG (autogas), at around 70 lek a litre, about a third of the price of petrol. LPG has no maximum price, so it varies more between stations.
