Cria.al is a marketplace for car rental in Albania. Local rental companies list their own cars, and Cria checks each company before its cars go on the site. You search with your dates and pickup place, and the car list shows the full price of the trip, with the add-ons you filter for. At booking you pay online only the reservation fee, plus a no-show guarantee if the rental company asks for one, and a small card transaction fee. The rest of the rental price, and any security deposit, you pay to the rental company when you collect the car. Your rental agreement is with that company, and the reviews you read come from travellers who completed a rental.
Where to pick up your car
You can start at Tirana International Airport or in Tirana, but car hire in Albania on Cria reaches much further. Rental companies hand over cars in Durrës, Vlorë, Sarandë, Shkodër, Berat, Gjirokastër, Korçë, Elbasan, Fier, Lushnjë, Lezhë, Pogradec, Dibër, Kukës and at Kukës airport. Each company chooses where it delivers, and some charge a delivery fee or a fee for a handover outside their opening hours. The trip total already includes those fees. To end your trip somewhere else, set a separate return place in the search. In August, a booking must start at least 24 hours after you make it.
Road trips across Albania
A car lets you set your own pace and link the coast, the mountains and the old towns in one trip. The best known route is the Riviera, which runs south from Vlorë over the Llogara Pass to Sarandë, with Butrint and Ksamil close by at the end. Inland, the UNESCO towns of Berat and Gjirokastër make easy stops on the way south. In the north, Shkodër sits by Lake Shkodër, and from that region mountain roads climb to Theth. Crossing the border
A road trip can easily add a neighbour, such as Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia or Greece. To use Cria.al, you must be at least 18. Driver eligibility is separate: you need a valid driver's license recognized in Albania for the period required by the provider, a passport or accepted ID, and the required payment method. Each provider sets the selected vehicle's minimum driver age; many use 21 and some require 23 or more. The requirements shown for the selected vehicle and during booking are final.
Basic third-party insurance is mandatory. Additional CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and theft protection are strongly recommended. Green Card insurance is required for cross-border travel.
